PLANNING GRANTED FOR HIGH QUALITY INDUSTRIAL SCHEME IN COCKERMOUTH 13 December 2007
England’s leading regeneration specialist, Priority Sites has chosen Derwent Mills near Cockermouth as an ideal location to develop 50,000 sq. ft of high quality industrial accommodation.
Located off Derwent Mills Commercial Park, the scheme, which has just been granted planning consent by Allerdale Borough Council, will comprise 12 individual units ranging in size from 2,900 sq. ft to 7,400 sq. ft. fit for a range of light manufacturing and assembly purposes.
According to the developer, the scheme will prove ideal for local companies wanting to relocate their operation into high quality, well designed premises.
Murray Carr, regional manager of Priority Sites’ North West office comments: “There is no high grade industrial accommodation of this type anywhere in Cockermouth, and we know that there are local companies who need it. It’s vital for the local economy that successful businesses who employ local people do not leave the area, and we know that by supplying the right kind of accommodation, we ensure that they stay.”
Priority Sites has worked closely with the NWDA to bring the scheme forward and a start on site is expected to commence in January 2008. John Boanas, development director of Priority Sites adds; “When completed the development will sustain around 100 jobs for the local community and we are delighted to be moving forward with a scheme that will have such a positive impact and help the area to prosper.”
Priority Sites is a joint venture commercial development company owned by The Royal Bank of Scotland and English Partnerships. It develops industrial, hybrid and office premises across England in areas requiring regeneration, primarily in former coalfield areas. The company has just completed its 3 millionth square foot of commercial development in Sheffield, South Yorkshire where its NorthBank office scheme is paving the way for an entire commercial centre in an up –and- coming area of the city.
Previous schemes completed in the region include Andrew’s Court scheme at Furness Business Park, Barrow, developed 4 years ago and comprised 18,500 sq. ft of industrial accommodation all fully sold.
