£4.5 MILLION NEW BUSINESS SPACE COMPLETES IN BARNSLEY

• Shortwood Business Park set to create a further 126 jobs

Leading regeneration specialist, Priority Sites, has completed a second phase of speculative business accommodation at Shortwood Business Park. The 63,000 sq ft scheme, strategically located just off junction 36 of the M1, will sustain up to 126 jobs for the Barnsley area when fully occupied.

This latest phase of development at the business park, located on the Dearne Valley Parkway, follows a successful 60,000 sq ft first phase of business space, which is now fully occupied and home to a variety of companies including Monarch Indexing, Majestic Showers, Millbrook Healthcare and Crampton and Moore.

The new, high-tech commercial accommodation comprises ten industrial units ranging in size from 4,000 to 10,000 sq ft and completes with three units already under offer. The new properties boast a number of top specification finishes and have been awarded the police approved ‘secure by design’ certification.

Development Manager for Priority Sites, Lee Buchanan, comments; “We have experienced a consistently high level of interest in Shortwood Business Park, since we announced our intention to develop here.

“Whilst the current economic climate is undoubtedly a tough one, there are still a number of Small and Medium Enterprises out there who need to relocate. Within this climate, these companies require quality and value for money accommodation with flexible finance options, to adapt to individual business needs. At Shortwood, we have aimed to meet these requirements and as such, the scheme is proving popular. The fact that three units are under offer as the build completes is firm evidence of this.”

The Shortwood Business Park scheme has been brought forward with the assistance of Objective One funding, which comes to and end this year.
Shaun Higginbottom, Business Development Manager at Barnsley Development Agency, comments; “The development at Shortwood Business Park shows that there is still a need for high quality business accommodation despite the current economic climate. Following the success of the first phase at Shortwood Business Park we are sure that interest will still be high. Barnsley benefits from fantastic transport links, some of the most competitive business costs in Europe and an excellent choice of premises that will meet any businesses needs.  I am confident that the development at Shortwood Business Park can only add to this offer.”

Chris Rowlands from Chris Rowlands & Co adds: “It was apparent from the success of the first phase of development at Shortwood that there was an unfulfilled demand for excellent quality, well specified industrial buildings in the range 4,000 sq ft to 10,000 sq ft and this has been borne out by the continuing interest in the current phase.”

Rebecca Schofield from Knight Frank adds: “The fact that the Business Park is strategically located on the edge of the M1 Motorway is proving a real draw to occupiers from the Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley areas.”

The lead consultants on the scheme are WSP. The appointed contractors are Britcon.
