REGENERATION SPECIALIST IS TOP OF THE CLASS FOR ENERGY PERFORMANCE
Priority Sites, which specialises in delivering commercial premises for the SME marketplace, has achieved A grades for energy performance on a number of new business units across Merseyside. The leading regeneration specialist has also become one of a handful of developers in the country to achieve a lower than carbon neutral rating on one of its recently completed industrial units in Bootle.
The Energy Performance Certificates, which became compulsory today (1st October) for all buildings sold or rented after this date, measure the energy efficiency of buildings against a variety of benchmarks including construction, insulation, heating, ventilation and the type of power used.
Priority Sites’ Brookfield Business Park development near Aintree and Vesty Business Park development in Bootle, have achieved top A ratings on a range of new commercial buildings. Carbon emission outputs range favourably between 10 and 24, distinctly lower than other newly built buildings of a similar type, which achieve an average rating of 37.
One new business unit at Vesty Business Park achieved the highest EPC rating possible, scoring an A+. With a carbon emission rating currently standing at less than neutral, having achieved -74, the 21,518 sq ft unit is now one of the most energy efficient new business units in the North West.
This achievement has firmly cemented the company’s green credentials at Vesty Business Park, which uses wind power sources to harvest at least 10% of the developments entire energy supply.
Bill Skilki, Chief Executive of Priority Sites, comments; “The effects of carbon emissions are becoming increasingly apparent across the globe and we take our responsibility towards the environment very seriously. Commercial properties and public buildings account for nearly 25% of the UK’s emissions and it is vital that both developers and business owners play their part in helping to reduce this.
“We always strive to respond to the environment when developing our commercial premises and work hard to ensure we help businesses reduce their own carbon footprint, through the provision of efficient business accommodation. We are delighted to have achieved such high scores for energy performance and are firmly committed to the delivery of environmentally responsible business space across the country.”
Murray Carr, North West Area Development Manager for Priority Sites, adds; “Traditionally energy saving and sustainable construction methods can add to the cost of development. By embedding environmental principles into the design, at the outset of a project, we have been able to keep additional costs down to a minimum and produce buildings that are both energy and cost efficient for occupiers.”
Priority Sites has long since recognised the importance of energy-saving technology and has achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’ as a minimum on 99% of its developments. With the new EPCs now compulsory, the company are aiming to achieve the top rating on all future developments.
The Vesty Business Park development offers industrial and hybrid units ranging in size from 3,000 sq ft to 28,000 sq ft. Brookfield Business Park offers industrial units ranging in size from 3,000 sq ft to 6,080 sq ft. All units are available for sale or rent, on flexible terms to suit occupier needs.
